    The primary purpose of the Toxicologist position in Houston, TX is to provide toxicology support to NASA, including NASA and senior toxicologists, as part of the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC). This job may assist and advise NASA and contractor-team toxicologists, flight surgeons, and other NASA personnel on a myriad of flight-related toxicological issues. Under the guidance of HHPC senior toxicologists, the primary functions of this job are a) to create mission-specific tables that document assessed hazards of all payload and system chemicals flown to or present in crewed spacecraft, b) aid senior toxicology staff in responding to inflight toxicology issues, c) prepare and communicate toxicological assessments in writing and orally to safety panels and management, d) research and develop proposed spacecraft concentration limits for water and air contaminants, and e) assist with the development, verification, and maintenance of requirements for future spacecraft and human explorations missions.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Under the direction and guidance of the HHPC senior toxicologists, generate Hazardous Material Summary Tables and Hazmat files that provide toxicological information and hazard assessments for all chemicals flown onboard specified spacecraft, habitats, space suits, etc. to required parties prior to the launch of each crewed spacecraft mission or resupply mission interfacing with a crewed spacecraft.- Conduct or participate in special projects, hazard assessments, and other toxicological issues as requested/approved by the NASA technical monitor and directed and supervised by the HHPC Lead Toxicologist.- Under the direction and guidance of HHPC senior toxicologists, set Spacecraft Water Exposure Guidelines (SWEGs) for waterborne contaminants and Spacecraft Maximum Allowable Concentrations (SMACs) for airborne contaminants in crewed spacecraft for various exposure durations. Activities associated with this activity include review and analysis of toxicological research published in the open literature and preparation of reports documenting the background and rationale used in setting each SMAC and SWEG.- Provide (with other NASA and HHPC toxicologists) "stand-by" toxicological support for crewed space missions.- Review and/or edit documents written by other toxicologists, upon request.- This position may assist and participate in tasks associated with in-house or external toxicology research such as creating collaborative agreements with parties external to NASA, developing peer-reviewed publications and attending scientific meetings. Participation in such efforts will be at the discretion of the NASA Toxicology Technical Monitor and as directed by and under the guidance of the HHPC Lead Toxicologist.- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company.- Will perform other duties as assigned.- Responsible for compliance with KBR's Safety, Health and Environmental Plan and all safety policies and procedures of the Company, including reporting of safety violations or potential violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel- Responsible for compliance with KBR's Quality Plan- Know and adhere to Company policies, procedures and work rules and demonstrate a strong work ethic- Responsible for completing all assigned training in a timely mannerEDUCATION/EXPERIENCEREQUIRED:This position requires a PhD with 0-2 years of relevant experience or a M.S. with 2-4 years of relevant experience. Degree(s) must be awarded for study in an area of physical or biological science (e.g. chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, public health, population health sciences, toxicology, pathology, pharmacology, or molecular biology). Degree(s) must be awarded from an accredited institution of higher learning.DESIRED:A background in computational (in silico) toxicology and/or at least 2 years of experience performing environmental or occupational risk assessments for toxic exposures to chemicals in air and/or water is highly desirable.SKILLS/TRAININGREQUIRED:- Evidence of solid writing and presentation skills is required. The incumbent must have good communication, writing, and computer skills, including database experience.- Ability to work with personnel at all levels.- Understands and can apply standard techniques on routine projects or as part of a larger project.- Excellent data management and data entry accuracy skills.- Ability to think independently.- Excellent multi-tasking, organization, and documentation skills.- Proficiency with Microsoft OfficeDESIRED:- Experience using basic or specialized database tools such as Access, Excel, or Filemaker Pro, as well as familiarity with productivity software platforms such as SharePoint is desirable.- DABT (Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology) certification or willingness to obtain DABT certification desired
