Job Summary and Qualifications

Under general supervision of the laboratory manager and/or shift supervisor, is responsible for performing laboratory duties and support functions efficiently and appropriately, following the policies and procedures established by the hospital and laboratory department to ensure the highest degree of quality patient care is maintained at all times. Assists in the restraint or position of patients for blood collection procedures. Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes.

• What you will do in this role:

• *Phlebotomy

• *Utilizing applications, principles, and techniques of laboratory technology to help collect specimens that will help the facilities laboratory report reliable test results in a timely manner

• *Proper patient identification using at least two unique identifiers

• *Maintaining compliance with policies, procedures, and record-keeping necessary to meet standards of accrediting and regulatory agencies.

• *Preparing specimens to be centrifuged by ensuring the centrifuge is balanced.

• *Identifies pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical issues that may adversely affect the performance of reporting accurate test results

What qualifications you will need:

• High School Degree or equivalent - Required 2+ years of recent clinical experience AND 1 year experience in an acute care hospital - RequiredASCP Certified Phlebotomy Technician - Preferred Basic Life Support (CPR) - Preferred
