  • The Carbon Technical Lead will be part of a team that delivers product sustainability verification services and will be focused on Life Cycle Assessment based solutions for manufacturers and brand owners. This role will be responsible for the creation, critical review and verification of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and will provide support to other internal and external project delivery resources. External relationships will be an important part of the position, with a requirement to liaise with clients and represent UL with standards organizations, industry stakeholders, representatives from partner organizations and at conferences. The Carbon Technical Lead will also support new and existing program development efforts.

    We are looking for a Lifecycle Assessment Practitioner with the following responsibilities

    • This role is remote. Candidates can live anywhere in US.

    • Supports Technical Services leadership in defining the interpretation, application and uniformity of technical methods, techniques and requirements applied in testing, audits and/or inspections.

    • Acts as lead verifier for PCF and EPD verification projects.

    • Develops ISO compliant LCA study reports, PCFs and EPDs.

    • Represents UL at technical meetings, regulatory discussions, standards committees and association meetings related to carbon.

    • Responsible for training and maintaining a list of competent team members. Onboards new team members, including external consultants as necessary.

    • Collaborates with Business Development to share market trends and identify commercial opportunities

    • Assists in development of new programs and leads implementation of new programs that are developed by program owner.

    • Drives and delivers on continuous improvement, efficiency, and automation of service delivery.

    • Stays on top of LCA and carbon market trends, especially regulations, standards and frameworks related to carbon accounting.

    • Responsible for the implementation of technical interpretation, application, training and uniformity of technical methods, techniques, and requirements in assigned geography and/or Industry. Develops guidelines, procedures and programs for internal operational adherence.

    • Supports strategic selling opportunities by leveraging industry relationships and providing technical expertise and advice during the sales process.

    • Represents UL at meetings of outside organizations; providing expert advice to influence industry approaches and elevate UL's thought leadership in the market.

    • Conducts webinars, presentations, technical trainings and workshops in region for internal and external stakeholders.

    • May manage the performance of direct reports by defining accountabilities, establishing performance objectives and goals, providing feedback and guidance and ensuring that all policies are understood and adhered to.

    • Support and provide feedback to alignment initiatives for Technical Services.

    • Total Rewards: The salary range for this position is $125,000 - $175,000. and is based upon years of experience that is commensurate with the level of the position.

    • All employees at UL Solutions are eligible for annual bonus compensation. The target for this position is 20% of the base salary offered.     • University Degree (Bachelor's degree) in Environmental Science or related field

    • 10+ years of post-graduate experience on Product Carbon Footprint and Life Cycle Assessment related projects either in a climate-related consulting position or an in-house sustainability role, including 5 years in a project leader or verifier role

    • LCA experience including creating and verifying LCAs to ISO 14044, ISO 14040 and relevant PCRs

    • Knowledge and previous use of standards and frameworks that relate to the carbon footprinting of products (ISO 14067, PAS 2050, GHG Protocol, PACT, Together for Sustainability, Catena-X) and EPDs (ISO 14025, ISO 21930, EN 15804)

    • Previously performed assurance of product carbon footprint statements following standards like ISO 14064-3, the GHG Protocol or private sector assurance programs based upon these standards)

    • Strong working knowledge of LCA software such as GaBi, OpenLCA or SimaPro is essential

    • Knowledge of the market including industry players, regulations, voluntary programs

    • Previous audit, inspection or site visit experience is preferred

    • Previous participation on standard or PCR committees related to the carbon footprint of products/ GWP

    • Accreditation as a Life Cycle Assessment Certified Professional (LCACP) or similar is a plus
