    Job Summary and Qualifications

    This position, reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, has 24-hour accountability for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. This role encompasses management of human, fiscal and other resources, development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning and fostering of collaborative relationships.

    • You will oversee the operations of several units/departments in accordance with hospital and nursing department philosophy, policies, procedures, protocols and standards.

    • You will assist with developing and implementing organizational plans so that communication is facilitated, and functional responsibilities and lines of authority are maintained.

    • You will promote cooperation with other departments, medical staff, auxiliary, and community agencies to facilitate optimum patient care.

    • You will develop and monitor departmental budgets.

    • You will prepare capital, personnel, and revenue and expense budgets annually.

    • You will approve payroll and reviews labor distribution on a bi-monthly basis.

    • You will assure the acquisition and retention of qualified personnel.

    • You will interview, hire, schedule, counsel, evaluate, promote and terminate employees.

    • You will coordinate and facilitate student clinical rotations.

    • You will communicate with Chief Nursing officer regarding significant unit or personnel problems.

    • You will develop a professional climate within the nursing units.

    • You will identify learning needs of staff members, and in collaboration with Nursing Education, develop plans to meet educational needs

    • You will conduct unit and/or charge nurse meetings.

    • You will oversee the development of unit Quality Improvement plans and activities.

    • You will develop policies, procedures and standards for the Nursing Department.

    • You will serve on committees and task forces as is necessary to facilitate interdepartmental communication and operations.

    • You will maintain current policy, procedure, and regulatory manuals.

    • You will develop departmental goals consistent with hospital/system strategic plans and operations.

    • You will maintain current professional growth through independent study, and attending in-service programs and workshops.

    • You will perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

    What qualifications you will need:

    • 5 years of clinical experience in the ICU with demonstrated management progression; at least 6 months of charge/supervisor experience

    • BS Nursing or Healthcare field

    • MS preferred

    • Registered Nurse with current state licensure or licensure from a state within the Nursing Compact required upon hire

    • BLS required within 30 days

    • ACLS required upon hire

    • Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse preferred
