    The Boeing Company is looking for a Chief Software Architect to join our team in Kent, WA.

    This position will work within the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) group and specifically the Rapid Space Capabilities (RSC) Satellite Flight Software team .

    The RSC business strategy is to rapidly develop and deploy innovative experimental products necessitating highly-advanced and novel approaches to achieve never-before-attempted missions. The software architectures must incorporate products from multiple functional domains and meet high levels of difficulty to bring together customer confidence and pass flight certification. The successful candidate will own the effort to craft and build the next generation of onboard satellite software. The Software Chief Architect will own and drive architecture across these first-in-type satellites.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Independent technical Subject Matter Expert, developing sophisticated software architecture for unique, first-in-type satellite systems

    • Lead development and documentation of satellite-wide software requirements and software interfaces for open-ended mission profiles

    • Define Software Development and Verification Plans in order to deliver high-assurance, certified flight software

    • Ensure compliance with all Software Quality, Product Security, and Enterprise Design Practices throughout the software lifecycle

    • Resolve sophisticated and seamless software interactions between satellite bus, power and thermal systems, communications and encryption, command and data handling, guidance and navigation, on-board autonomy, ground control, mission operations, and systems duplications

    • Lead geographically-diverse business partners through integration of developmental software products into RSC satellite architectures

    • Advise program customers on system-level architecture; establish and maintain frequent and open communication with key partners

    • Lead software research and development projects

    • Author tech-volumes and advise proposal activities across multiple product lines

    • Serve as consultant to RSC leadership team in long-range planning for technology research and advancement, critical to driving and acquiring future business

    • Train and mentor others

    This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location option.

    This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

    • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

    • 14+ years of experience in developing architecture and embedded real-time software

    • 10+ years experience with embedded software design, development, debugging, and performing software integration and testing

    • 10+ years of experience with C++ 10+ years demonstrated ability working with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

    • Experience with configuration management and collaboration tools such as (or similar to) Git, JIRA, Collaborator, Beyond Compare, and VersionOne

    • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or Agile Scrum methodology

    Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

    • 10+ years of experience developing Space domain software products

    • 10+ years of experience in LOR 1/2/3 (DAL A/B/C) critical flight software

    • 10+ years of experience in Network Programming; TCP/IP protocols

    • 10+ years of experience developing scientific algorithms or simulations using auto-generated code with Julia and/or MATLAB

    • 10+ years of experience leading or mentoring people in a technical environment

    • 10+ years of experience working on responses to requests for proposal (RFP) and contract support

    • Experience working with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) (Wind River Systems VxWorks, DDC-I Deos or Green Hills Software Integrity) and Linux operating system, in an embedded systems environment

    • Experience with cyber security concepts and compliance, encryption, red-black architecture

    • Experience with satellite GN&C concepts (orbital mechanics, control theory, etc.)

    • Experience with vehicle automation, mission/contingency management, fault management

    • Experience with Enterprise Standard Gated Process (EGSP) and Gate Incremental Checkpoints Assessment (GICA)

    Typical Education/Experience:

    Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

    Summary pay range: $161,500 - $218,500
