    This position assumes responsibility for coordination and care of the Siena Art Collections. The Art and Visual Resources Librarian participates in the development and organization of Siena's visual art collection. The position may provide web-based and classroom instruction and assistance in the use of information and visual resources; plans and implements services that respond to the needs of our users; participates in the development and review of library policies, procedures, and services; and is responsible for the coordination and management of services and projects that involve the art collection as well as coordination of activities related to the Yates Gallery. The Art and Visual Resources Librarian may provide reference and information services to a broad range of faculty, students, staff, and community users in the Standish Library.

    Position works approximately 25 hours per week.

    Specific Duties

    • Assumes a variety of responsibilities related to the art collections of Standish Library. This includes management, classification, arrangement, and description, preservation, access, outreach, and security.

    • Improves accessibility to art collections by preparing and publishing finding aids. Creates collection level records for inclusion in the online library catalog (Alma).

    • Creates and maintains a digital catalog for all art and objects within the collections.

    • Assist in providing reference support in the use of special collections and may collaborate to deliver instructional sessions in the use of Art collections by the Siena community and the broader public.

    • Assists in the creation and maintenance of online research guides and other support tools.

    • Participates in the creation and coordination of Library exhibitions, outreach and instruction programs, and events.

    • Coordinates schedules and events for the Yates Gallery.

    • Serves on library committees, working groups, and task forces, and engages in professional development outside the library.

    • Assists, if necessary, with disaster recovery efforts.

    • May perform other duties as assigned.

    • Acts as back up to Archives and Special Collections Librarian.

    Salary: $ 38.31/hour*

    Job Requirements:

    REQUIRED

    • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school and an educational background in the visual arts, art history, or design.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of art, archival, and library management systems

    • Demonstrated experience with art and object cataloguing.

    • Demonstrated experience with basic preservation and conservation standards for art, archival, and special collections.

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

    • Comprehensive information technology and digital literacy skills.

    • A high-level service commitment and flexibility and willingness to assume a variety of assignments.

    • Ability to recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds. Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to equity and inclusion.

    • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships and engage in workplace culture.

    • Listens to, encourages and expresses creative and innovative ideas. Open to experimenting with and improvising new ways of approaching processes, tasks or problems.

    PREFERRED

    • Undergraduate or graduate degree in art history or related discipline.

    • Experience with the ACRL Visual Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education.

    A background screening will be required.
