    Southern Company Financial Reporting is looking for an accountant to assist with the overall preparation and coordination of Southern Company's annual Form 10-K and quarterly Form 10-Q filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as well as other SEC filing responsibilities.     JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide assistance in the overall quarterly SEC reporting process (10-K/10-Qs), including the preparation of multiple working drafts distributed to reviewers around the Southern Company system leading up to the ultimate filing with the SEC.

    • Provide assistance reviewing comments on 10-K/10-Q drafts from executives, attorneys, accountants, and external auditors and making the appropriate revisions.

    • Provide assistance maintaining and completing the control checklist for disclosures included in the 10-K/10-Q notes to financial statements, including requesting and assembling support documentation and corresponding management approval.

    • Provide assistance preparing and maintaining tie-out support files for all 10-K/10-Q notes to financial statements disclosures.

    • Provide assistance to users of Workiva's Wdesk application across the Southern Company system with any questions, troubleshooting, or efficiency improvements.

    • Provide assistance with the continued maintenance of XBRL in Southern Company's filings.

    • Provide assistance with the annual Conflict Minerals reporting efforts and help ensure due diligence is performed for Form SD filing requirements.

    • Provide assistance reviewing and verifying information included in the Annual Report to Shareholders.

    • Maintain documentation in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other internal control processes.

    • Provide audit support to both internal and external auditors as required.

    • Participate and assist with special project activities including, but not limited to, Southern Company Financial Reporting's Business Assurance Plan, Accounting Research, Environmental/Social/Governance (ESG) Reporting, and other ad hoc requests from management, subsidiary companies, or other departments as required.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    Education Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required

    • CPA or CPA candidate desired

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum of 3 months of accounting experience required

    • Accounting experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: public accounting, financial accounting, regulatory accounting, finance, internal controls, or auditing

    • Experience with Workiva's Wdesk application is desired

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, related rules, and regulations

    • Knowledge of Securities and Exchange Commission rules and reporting requirements

    • Understanding of accounting, specifically utility accounting, and ratemaking principles

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details

    • Ability to interface effectively with accounting personnel, disclosure attorneys, and other subject matter experts across the Southern Company system.

    • Works well with others.

    • Ability to support multiple assignments simultaneously under tight deadlines. Works well under stress.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
