Editor's Note: Tech Industry Still A Great Career

Ok. I've had it with all the negative talk about career options in the IT sector. Let's face the facts: Pretty much everything we do in our lives, and everything we will need to do in the future, will somehow be powered by some sort of information technology. And the same holds true for all the things we do at work. In fact the world's unquenchable thirst for data (both on the business side and the consumer side) bodes extremely well for today's tech workers and college students who are hopefully heading into computer science college courses. And that's why the latest news from the Labor Department is a worthy read. The job future is particularly rosy for network systems and data communications analysts, as pundits predict a 55% growth rate in jobs between now and 2014, with 126,000 new openings coming into play. The numbers are just as nice for computer software engineers working with applications, with 222,000 new jobs expected (a 48% growth rate) and 146,000 new jobs (a 43% growth rate) for computer software engineers working with systems software. For more insight on the fastest growing occupations, check out the Labor Department'slist. And here's a list of occupations with the largest job growth through 2014. No, computer science and IT roles don't lead either lists, but they're on there and there's good salary news tied to their growth expectations as well. Overall, not bad news to end what's been a pretty good summer. Hope you all enjoy your Labor Day holiday. See you in September. Judy
