  • Job SummaryThe Director of Data and Analytics has the primary responsibility of leading the data analytics and data warehousing teams and ensuring alignment with the business's vision and objectives. The Director of Data and Analytics organizes and assembles the team, technology, processes, and financial resources necessary to address the current and future data and analytics needs of the business. The person in this role understands that information and data are key business asset and operationalizes the application of data and information in order to deliver optimal performance. This role will also influence data capabilities and competencies within the business.The role will provide an opportunity to lead key initiatives that include:

    MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)

    • Drive the scope and effectiveness of the data and analytics function at Avantor.

    • Drive integration of company wide data into a centralized data warehouse and modeled to support data analysis requirements from all functional groups.

    • Work with the commercial, supply chain, finance, business units and executive management teams to create a data enabled user journey.

    • Create and execute a plan for options to migrate the on-premise data warehouse into the cloud.

    • Collaborate with all functions of the company to ensure data needs are addressed and the required data is modeled and available to analysts and end-users.

    • Build a multi-modal service model that meets the non-homogeneous needs of our functional groups - Full-service to Self-Service, and across our data stack.

    • Work with the organization to maintain a holistic vision of the future of data and help leadership plan for any changes in our data strategy or needs.

    • Responsible to set and maintain the data governance strategy across the company.

    • Leads and manages Agile data engineering teams responsible for implementing enterprise data platform technology assets in accordance with internal roadmap.

    • Conducts reviews of new projects or enhancements to ensure that development work conforms with architectural standards. Monitor and incorporate industry innovations.

    • Collaborate with analytics leaders across the organization to drive Data and Analytics awareness throughout the enterprise, to drive Avantor to a data driven enterprise.

    • Create a master data management and governance strategy to establish single source of truth.

    QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in business related or technology related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

    • 10+ years of experience in information technology

    • 8+ years of Data Modeling experience. Delivering both logical models and physical designs. MPP technologies preferred.

    • 5+ year of Data transformation program experience.

    • 4+ years working with Reporting and Analytics solutions.

    • Experience with AI, ML and other cognitive computing tools is required.

    • Experience with SAP Data Services and enable acceleration of ERP data extraction, cleansing, transformation, and integration for a new implementation of SAP S/4HANA or system consolidations.

    • Experience with integrating, connecting, and processing structured or unstructured critical data from SAP or third-party sources within Big Data or enterprise solutions deployed on premise or in the cloud.

    • Experience with data replication, data integration technologies, ETL, etc.

    • Knowledge of life sciences industry is strongly preferable.

    • Possesses sound analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Must have the ability to think creatively and incorporate current technical solutions with the end user in mind.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

    • Strong in business process analysis, data architecture design and development as well as the implementation of workflow enabled solutions.

    • Experience in working with market/business intelligence.

    • Strong in strategic planning, development of a roadmap and execution.

    • Experience working with large datasets and computing systems such as Hadoop, SAP, Snowflake, etc.

    • Effective communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work effectively in a multi-tasking stressful environment, working independently and prioritizing work

    • Must have strong teamwork skills and the ability to develop working relationships

    • Must be able to communicate with all levels of management as well as to employees in the business

    • Must be highly motivated, have a great work ethic and enjoy working as part of an international team


    • A certain flexibility of working hours is expected.
